The Hausmann Quartet joins Intimate Classics for an afternoon devoted to Beethoven at his most inventive, daring, and uncompromising. The program follows Beethoven across very different points in his creative life – from the playful “Eyeglasses” Duet to the expansive String Quartet in C major, Op. 59 No. 3, the concentrated intensity of Op. 95, “Serioso,” and the astonishing Grosse Fugue, a work whose scale and radical musical language challenged listeners in Beethoven’s own time and still sounds audacious today. San Diego’s Hausmann Quartet has been part of the region’s musical life since 2010 and is currently Artists-in-Residence at San Diego State University. Beethoven Fest offers a close encounter with a composer continually testing – and sometimes breaking – the boundaries of what chamber music could be.
